A few weeks ago we headed up the road to the North Georgia mountains to meet up with our pals Johann the Dog and Gracie and their mom for another winter hike. We met in Dawsonville and then took one car to find the trail, since we knew it might be tricky to find the trailhead.
As it turned out, we never did find the original trail we set out for, but instead wound up at Wildcreek Trail.
Neither of us had been there before, and the beginning of the trail was fairly nondescript, but we decided to give it a try.
And we were glad we did!
There were plenty of surprises in store, including a scenic river that ran beside us for most of the hike.
Early in the hike we came upon the river. We learned from some other hikers passing by that this was where Wildcat Creek merges with the Amicalola River.
Then, we crossed this bridge over the Amicalola River where Rocco picked up an impressive collection of leaves.
Rocco, Johann and Gracie found plenty of good things to check out along the way. Something must've smelled REALLY good here!
There may be less color on winter hikes, but one of the benefits is the ability to see through the trees to a glorious blue sky.
Rocco and Gracie preferred to check out the running water of Wildcat Creek.
While Johann found a good scent in the air. (Either that, or he's looking at his mum!)
Meantime Rocco tries to see how many leaves he can carry in his fur! Most of them are underneath where you can't see them.
And at one point, the pups stopped for a break by the river.
It was a beautiful day for a hike with pals and we'll have to do it again soon. You can what Johann the Dog had to say about our hike here!
