Meet Puppy X! Please Help Name Our New Havanese Puppy!

Well, I did it. After years of debating about getting a second dog, this sweet puppy came to live with us this week! He's 10 weeks old and already a bundle of fun! Cosmo and pup are getting along famously, but the most important thing now is, he needs a name!

Check out all the photos and please leave any suggestions in the comments below! Just remember, he needs a name that can be shouted across an agility ring! He'll also start out in conformation and who knows what else he'll do! But for now, he needs a good call name.... like Cosmo!

Puppy X is brindle and white, with four white paws and the cutest white-tipped tail! He's reddish-golden underneath the brown and black tips you see. So he'll likely look completely different once his fur starts growing.

He doesn't stand still for long...

And he likes to fetch things, like this leave that's as big as his head!

Awww, sweet boy!

He may be short, but he's already scrambled up these steps!

And he loves to tug and jump and zoom around the backyard!

Cosmo and Mini Me. Please help me name this cutie!

Thanks to Carol Croop at Premiere Havanese for this sweet boy! You'll see more of him once we know what to call him!!

    5. Cosmo, is you new little bro as pesty as my new little sister? He sure is cute, though. Maybe you need a Cuban name for him? @LucyWestie's mom could help there!

Congrats! Maybe he and Mackenzie can agility train together. :-)

  3. One of the very first pictures I have of Indiana is her playing with leaves. We vote for something adventurous. Does he have a registered name?

    1. He will have a registered name. We were trying to think of registered and call names together, but if I find a call name I like, we'll just back into the registered name!

    1. I think Christie might be on to something!! Making some name that matces Cosmo!! :D (And Astro is cute!) Or some other star/ galaxy name.

    2. I think Astro is cool too. Brian mentions Sirius below... Orion? (That'll sound like Ryan though I think). Pegasus? think, think, think.

    1. OMD! That's right. We are related now! What does that make us... aunt-in-laws?! Second cousins once removed?! Are you keeping one of the amigos?

  7. Love unusual dog names. I'm a big proponent of the 2-syllable rule for call names. Strong consonant, long vowel. I avoid things that start with S so that I don't accidentally erode STAY, and it is nice when the name starts with C or K since that can help with COME ... A few ideas ... Gilbert, Binkley, Cormac, Rudy, ...

Congrats on the happy / good news.

  8. Oh My Gosh- CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE!!!!!!! I've been debating when to get another Havanese puppy myself... I was thinking in about 2-3 years or so... (Jasmine will be 7 years old next week.) So when she can no longer do all the tricks/ TV shows/ commercials, then I'll have her little protege to continue her legacy... (Not that I want to think about that just yet... but it's in the back of my mind.) Congrats on your new little edition. I wish I could meet him in person. TOO CUTE FOR WORDS....

  10. Actually the first name to hit me was Gizmo....then I saw that there was a Gizmo above!! I still love "Gizmo"....or...."Widget!"

  11. I think Mojo would be a good name for your adorable Hav pup!

  12. He's adorable!

I like two syllable names that make it easy to call a pup. Are you a Seinfeld fan? If so, Cosmo's brother would have to be called Kramer. :)

  13. He is just so cute! Congratulations, again! I hope he and Cosmo grow to be best friends.

As far as names go... I loved the Astro idea, as well as the constellation names. To add another one to the mix, how about Perseus? It's a bit long but easy to shorten for yelling across the agility course! Whatever you choose, I am sure it will suit him perfectly.

  14. I love the name "Hogan ... it means little warrior ". But beaware I named my little guy that name and he lives up to it.

  15. OMD he's so adorable! I like the idea of names ending in "o" like Cosmo...so maybe Amigo, Bingo, or Franko. Good luck!

  19. He is adorable. How about Caradoc, it means beloved. ~Alasandra

  20. Congrats on your new addition! I think Kramer would be a great name. If not that, how about something southern? Our neighbors in TN had a dog called Grits, which I thought was a great name.

  21. Oh my. He's just the cutest thing EVER. Hm. Benton. Benton would work. Or Benson. Jerald.Carter.Walker.

  24. Match for Cosmo should be GISMO. When I brought Joy home, I thought of MO. But, he was so fast, running around all the time like joystick. So, I diceded he will be Joystick. For so fast boy it was too long name. After some time he became JOY. And he is the joy of our lifes. You should listen to yourself and what you feel when you look at him. Anyway, let you both be happy together. Branka& Joy

  27. OMD, Cosmo, he is so cute!! The only Cuban name I can think of that would suit him is Hugo but I think he looks like a Harvey. I hope he's not as much trouble as my bro, Rory Monkey Mutt :)
