A Poem for a Fluffy Dog

Jon Ciliberto, the middle poet holding Rocco, wrote our poem
This weekend, Rocco's adventures took a literary turn!

As we enjoyed a Saturday afternoon walk in the Atlanta West Midtown area, we happened upon three poets.

These three poets offered "Free Poems on Demand"...  as the sign says.

Free poems? hmmm. This caught my interest as Rocco cozied up to the three poets... thinking they might have some snacks for him, I'm sure.

We learned that the poets from Poets on Demand pop up all over Atlanta to spread the joy of poetry. You provide a topic and they write an instant poem!

We chose "fluffy dog" for our topic... oh, what a surprise.

Jon wrote our poem in just a few minutes and then delivered it to us like this:

Here's what it says:
When that cloud of soft hound
bundles underfoot and soft brown
flounce of fluff wuffs, a leash
is a straight line to soft eyes.
Under all that hair floats a wary
pup, tricksing treats, barking
off even small dogs. Southern
weather puffs up to mad form
that little furry thing, needing
little bows to tie down the small bow wows, or
primp up to high tease a fluffy dog.

What Jon didn't know is what kind of mischief maker Rocco is under all that fluff! What he did see was Rocco creating a ruckus when he spied a nice looking Dachshund across the street.

After Rocco received his literary fill, it was time to start planning an adventure of a more physical kind. Come back on FitDog Friday and we'll tell you all about Rocco's and his pal Nicky's Sunday adventure in the North Georgia mountains!

Welcome to Monday Mischief – The pet blog hop that wraps up the weekend! This Blog Hop is brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy's Dog Blog and My Brown Newfies.

  2. I love Rocco's poem. What a wonderful treat.

I've thought about writing chalk poems on the sidewalks of my town. Maybe I need to write a few dog poems of my own.

  5. That's neat to run into "street performers" that make a poem especially for you. Reminds me of those caricatures, only in writing :) Can't wait to hear about yoru adventure on Friday.

  9. Isn't that just the neatest thing? I love the poem. It's things like that that make me want to live in the city sometimes (or at least be close enough to visit more often). Looking forward to hearing about the Georgia mountains...the dogs look ready to go in that photo!
