We can't think of anything better than getting out on a nice fall day for a walk, hike or run with dogs AND supporting a good cause at the same time.
Last weekend Rocco and I ran the Morningside Mile, a fun walk/run in our neighborhood that benefits our local, historic fire station.
It was a fun event that culminated with a "block party" and a chance to meet our local firemen!
All-in-all, Rocco and I put in about three miles since we walked about a mile to the start of the race and another mile home. We started off a little slow because of the crowd, but little Rocco ran the entire race! He loved it!
Here's what video looks like when you're running with a pup in a crowd, and taking video at the same time. At least you get the idea!
After the race, Rocco did a few puppy push ups with the folks from FitWit!
Next weekend we're participating in the Puppy Up! Walk for cancer research, organized by 2 Million Dogs. If you're in Atlanta, I hope you'll consider joining us. And if you're not, I hope you'll consider any sized donation... think $5 or so. Every bit helps! We are walking in memory of Cosmo Havanese and donations can be made here.
Are you walking or running for charity in the next few weeks? Seems like I've heard of a lot of activity from our bloggie pals recently. If you are, please feel free to share your links in the comments below to help spread the word for your efforts!
The fun and games continue every Friday with FitDog Friday, the weekly Blog Hop brought to you by To Dog With Love, SlimDoggy and Peggy's Pet Place to promote a healthy active lifestyle for pets (and their people, too!) and to help combat pet obesity. Join in every Friday by linking up your FitDog story or visiting the blogs in the Hop.
UPDATE: Old posts or new are welcome in the FitDog Friday Blog Hop! Please feel free to share any post you've written that helps promote a healthy active lifestyle for your pets. The more FitDogs the merrier!

ReplyDeleteWe've done a couple of those, they are great exercise and great causes. I love those videos you posted, cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!! I don't think Riley would run that... even though she is non-stop at the beach. Go Rocco Go!!!
ReplyDeleteGo Rocco! It's on our list of things to do at some point. Mr. N needs some more work around crowds + dogs before that can happen though.
ReplyDeleteThat is great fun and a good cause. Sorry the videos did not load for us. Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
WoW. Good turnout. Like all the different type of coverage you got & that Rocco got to hang out with a local Firey. Lucky him ;) We enjoy walking (not so much the running part) for a cause...the last one we did was for RSPCA
ReplyDeleteHey Rocco! You are right, we seem to be seeing more and more of these events and think they are great. Good cause and good exercise!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome :D I want to start doing walk-a-thon's with Nailah! I love doing charity events and it's awesome to participate with your puppy :) Good on you!
ReplyDeleteLove your videos Diane...and I'm glad you walked to and from cause a mile just wouldn't be enough for Rocco...looks like a fun event
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great event. We don't usually do those kind of things because there is just too much going on, and with three of us, one or two would need to stay home. We prefer the quieter long hikes with all of us together, but for many folks, these events are great! Glad Rocco made it running the mile.
ReplyDeletePawesome run! Woooooowoooooooo! Ku (Swami Zoe's brofur) http://haikubyku.com
ReplyDeleteGreat to see an event that allows dogs. I can never seem to find an event that allows dogs. There was finally one this year though that explicitly encourages dogs. To bad I was in california!
ReplyDeleteRocco looks like he's really energized by having so many running/walking partners. I love the idea of a charity walk/run as exercise for a cause. We usually participate in our local SPCA's March for the Animals but had to miss it this year when we were in Panama.
ReplyDeleteI'll show Honey Rocco's video to get her psyched up for next year.
Pawesome post- Agree- we try to promote and participate in all the walks and runs with and for dogs in our area too. X TH
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great event, and what a good turnout! We don't have a lot of those events in our area, but I've done a couple and really enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Rocco is having a BLAST! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! And I bet the firemen LOVED Rocco! As you know, we're doing the Mutt Strutt today to raise money for Fetch-A-Cure, an organization that educates humans about canine cancer, its detection, and prevention and assists humans in need pay for cancer treatment. THANKS SO MUCH for supporting Team Garth in the Mutt Strutt!
