Tips for Hiking With Dogs

Our pal Johann enjoys a recent hike!
Fall is a great time to go hiking with your pup. The air is fresh and cool and the fall colors can be spectacular!

It hardly feels like exercise when you're out in the great outdoors, but the activity and fresh air is great for both you and your pup.

Our pal Johann the Dog (and his mom!) have put together some great tips for a healthier, safer hike with your dog.  They've also included loads of helpful resources, including tips for hiking the green dog way and finding the best places to hike with your dog.

So whether you're an experienced hiker or just starting out,  I think you'll find lots of useful tips and ideas from our pal Johann. Check them out here!

Johann and his sister Gracie also both do agility and we all had the chance to practice some agility and then follow it up with a nice park walk recently. What a great day!

We're also planning a hike with Johann and Gracie in the North Georgia mountains just as soon as the weather permits! I'm hoping we can get some spectacular photos. It's getting to be the peak of leaf season in north Georgia now, so stay tuned for that!

On another note, this Sunday Rocco and I are walking to support cancer research for pets and people  with 2 Million Dogs. That's the organization inspired by Luke Robinson's 2008 cross-country trek with his two Great Pyrenees, Hudson and Murphy. When Luke lost his pup Malcom to cancer, he wanted to do all he could to help eradicate the disease and 2 Million Dogs was formed.

Now, Puppy Up! Walks are held around the country as part of the 2 Million Dogs campaign. Rocco and I will be walking this Sunday in memory of Cosmo Havanese, who lost his battle with lung cancer late last year. Please consider making a small donation to help us help fight cancer.
The fun and games continue every Friday with FitDog Friday, the weekly Blog Hop brought to you by To Dog With LoveSlimDoggy and Peggy's Pet Place to promote a healthy active lifestyle for pets (and their people, too!) and to help combat pet obesity. Join in every Friday by linking up your FitDog story or visiting the blogs in the Hop.

UPDATE:  Old posts or new are welcome in the FitDog Friday Blog Hop! Please feel free to share any post you've written that helps promote a healthy active lifestyle for your pets. The more FitDogs the merrier!

  7. We never consider walking to be exercist because we all love it so much, but in actuality, it is exercise. A great way to stay fit your entire life for dogs and their humans!

  8. Hi Y'all!

Yes! Those of us doggies living in the southeastern U.S. have limited opportunity for play, hiking and travel much of the year. It is fall, winter and early spring that give us time to have FUN!

    Y'all come by now,
