Just thinking about K9 Kamp makes me think of all the old songs we used to sing at summer camp!
Slap, Bang was one of those songs that we sang upon arriving at camp. And as it turns out, Slap, Bang is also known as The School of Jolly Dogs! How ironic is that! At my camp, the words we sang to Slap, Bang had nothing to do with dogs!
Slap, bang here we are again what jolly dogs we are!
Anyway, I digress, dear Kampers! Today, we'd like to welcome you all to the winter session of K9 Kamp, the virtual Kamp you can enjoy from wherever you are that brings you fun, fitness and friendship!
So gather 'round the campfire my jolly dog pals, and with my co-Kounselors Peggy's Pet Place and SlimDoggy, we're about to reveal our K9 Kamp challenge!
So without further ado…. here's the challenge for K9 Kamp Winter Session, 2014!…
Let's all play "Doggie Hide and Seek"!

Rocco plays his own game of Hide and Seek! |
You can blog about your progress and your own interpretation of the game. And, if you don't have a blog, you can also share with us your ideas and progress in the comment section on our blogs, or link up a Facebook post.
And, don't forget to enter our fabulous giveaway for all K9 Kampers! You'll find it at the end of this post.
We're co-locating FitDog Friday and K9 Kamp for the next four weeks so you can also link up here every Friday, if you like, to share your progress and offer words of encouragement. And we'll be here to cheer you on too!
Then, on February 21, we'll have our final campfire here at K9 Kamp. On that date, you can link up your final post right here on our FitDog Friday/K9 Kamp Blog Hop.
There's no pressure to post something every week, though we'd love to hear how you're doing. The only rules are to have fun with your dog!
Here's one version of Hide and Seek to get you started…
- Select an item--your dog's favorite toy, a treat, etc. When your dog isn't looking, hide the item. If your dog is new at this, start off with the item under a pillow or behind a table close enough to find. If your dog is a pro, make it challenging.
- Now tell your dog "Find it!" Run along with your dog, encouraging him as you go.
- Be sure to offer lots of praise when your dog finds the item.
- Now, it's your turn! Be creative and think up new ways to play Doggie Hide and Seek.
We may do a variation of Hide and Seek, where I hide and Rocco finds me. Or, we may play Hide and Seek with one of our interactive treat dispensers or toys. Our pal Sugar posted this really cool Hide and Seek idea yesterday… and she didn't even know what our challenge would be! Surprise!
How will you play Hide and Seek? We'd love to hear your initial thoughts in the comments below.
Here's where to enter for a chance to win fab K9 Kamp prizes!
Enter via Rafflecopter for a chance to win a whole bunk-full of great prizes! You can read more about the prizes in our K9 Kamp post from last week.
Disclaimer: A special thanks to Petmate, PPI, and Smart Cookee. We were provided these prizes as gifts for giveaway. No other compensation was provided to us.

That picture of Rocco hiding is soooo cute! This is a great game and I think all the Kampers are going to have a lot of fun. I'm so excited to be hosting along with you and Slimdoggy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm so excited to be a co-host too! It's going to be a great Kamp season!
DeleteI really want to train Mr. N to find my keys. That counts as hide and seek right? My keys are always hiding!
ReplyDeleteOne of our obedience trainers taught her dog to find her keys by attaching a tiny Kong on her key chain! She was also always losing her keys... the only problem was when she lost them and her dog wasn't with her to find them!
DeleteAttaching the tiny Kong is a great idea! I've seen those around, they're very cute! I think find the keys is a great idea too. We may have to consider that one as well!

Diane and Rocco
Hid and seek sounds like great fun. Have a fabulous Friday.

Oooh, we're looking forward to playing a new game! I think we're going to our version out in the snow, searching for treats thrown into the snow!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like fun! Wish we could do that here in Atlanta… well, maybe not! Can't wait to see your game!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
I'm looking forward to having more quality time with my furbabies. I have five Treeing Walker Coonhounds, although one is 13 and doesn't really play much any more.
ReplyDeleteWow! You'll have five times the fun! Thanks for joining us at Kamp!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
Looking forward to playing hide and seek with my Aussie Gershwin. That's our favorite game!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you at K9 Kamp! Can't wait to see how much fun you have!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
I've seen the Paw Plunger on the Petppi.com site and would love something like this for my dogs. I have five Treeing Walker Coonhounds who come in with muddy paws any time it rains (or after snow melts, which will hopefully be happening soon). My biggest problem is that four of them typically come in en mass so I don't know how I could get them all done before they race past me into the house. LOL!
ReplyDeletehaha! Now that WILL be a challenge! I can just see them all lined up waiting for their paw plunge!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
We are on week two of six in nose work one which is essentially finding hidden treats. We will be posting about the new things we learn in the next couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to see how you progress! We love nose work too!

ReplyDeleteWe are very excited to join in the fun! I never got to go to camp as a kid so that's what I'm looking forward to! Participating! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you're able to attend our K9 Kamp! Camp is one of my happiest memories, so I'm so excited to be involved in K9 Kamp! Can't wait to see what you play!

Diane and Rocco
We are looking forward to playing hide and seek! Mom has been leary of doing this with treats because of my OCD (obsessive compulsive doxie) but a toy might work better! Our walk got canceled again due to bad weather so we need to find something to do! Love Dolly!
ReplyDeletehaha! Using a toy is a great idea! I just played a bit today with Rocco with one of those frisbee's that has a pocket for stuffing treats. Wow! That made a huge difference in his toy motivation. Not sure if that would be too much for Dolly! Can't wait to see your game!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
I'm looking forward to seeing which of my pugs is best at hide-and-seek. I will try it tonight :) Thanks so much!!!
ReplyDeleteoh yay! We can't see your game! Welcome to K9 Kamp! We're so glad you're joining us!

Oh, this sounds like so so much fun. I have eight dogs, including three rescues. The rescues are a long hair chihuahua , a pit bull and a sheltie and the others are also shelties. While my rescue chihuahua and rescue put bull would not be interested in a game of hide and seek, my shelties would love to play. I have one in particular, one of my youngest, who is very in tune with me and very curious and likes to be included in everything. He's got quite the personality. I've done hide and seek with toys and treats inside before but never even thought to take the game outside. This particular boy would even love to play with the game with Rocco, whose pic above is precious by the way! This is my first time so I'm looking forward to absolutely everything. The prize package is amazing and would be so nice to have for my fur kids. I already make them line up for paw wiping when it's yucky outside so using the paw plunger would be simple with mine....my four youngest shelties are actually all so crazy about water I could probably teach them to put their paw in and out by themselves and then me just wipe! These are shelties who sit IN the elevated water bowl on the deck in the summer if they don't have their kiddie pool with a little water and some ice cubes in it.... Silly dogs! Thanks for the chance to participate in the fun and win this amazing prize!
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad you're joining us at K9 Kamp! I bet Rocco would love to play with your pup too! Can't wait to see the fun you all have at Kamp!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
PS That's so funny about the water bowl!
Of all the fun and games we play, we've never played hide and seek! Biddy and Tristan are wondering why I've been holding out on them! We are going to have some fun this week!
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you're joining us!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
Patches plays hide and seek with me EVERY DAY. We have a big back yard and plenty of places to hide. She never wants to come in when I call her, so she hides. I've taken to bribing her with treats to get her in the house. It's way too cold to be hunting for my dog in the middle of the night in my pajamas.
ReplyDeletehehe! You got that right! I'm lucky… Rocco is very bribable with treats! Welcome to K9 Kamp!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
I've written a post about the hide-and-seek game I've played with Maya and Pierson in the past. I call it the "find it" game, though. Can I link it to the blog hop or is that only for recent posts that are specifically about K9 Camp?
ReplyDeleteYes, you can link to an older post or a new one. We're fine with either one. Welcome to K9 Kamp! Glad you're joining us!
DeleteYour pals,
Diane and Rocco
Hide hide & seek has always been a fave for us. Will be posting. Happy fitDogging
ReplyDeleteWe're glad you're joining us at K9 Kamp!

Love that picture of Rocco playing "peek-a-boo!" So cute. Much love, The Scottie Mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the bonding that comes with play.
ReplyDeleteAs we've been playing Hide and Seek this week, we've found we love the bonding time too! Can't wait to see what you've been up to!
DeleteDiane and Rocco
We are looking forward to getting in shape!
ReplyDeletePlaying hide and seek, I think my girls would love this!
ReplyDeleteWe also vote for hide & seek.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing all the suggestions for exercising my dogs this winter.
ReplyDeleteWe're looking forward to getting ideas of how to stay active during the cold winter months!
ReplyDeleteI just love the idea of the Paw Plunger, I always spill water all over the place when I try to clean the salt off Duke's paws!
ReplyDeleteIm hoping to learn how to teach my dogs to not run off if they get out. If they do then how to call them back.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to keeping my dogs in shape and learning new games to play with them.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to having fun with my canine and meeting new people.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the time and interaction with my dog! I also think it will be fun to see just how intelligent she is. Plus, I hope she will prove that you don't have to be a large breed dog or a retriever to do this type of activity.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as the site pops up, I see the coolest item ever! The paw plunger is brilliant! I think in this weather I need one for me and my mom!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Paw Plunger, my dogs get their feet so dirty and hate to have me wipe them.
