Having Fun With Your Puppy

Puppy Rocco
Earlier this week we participated in the Dog Agility Blog Event, where several times a year bloggers come together to write about a specific agility topic. This week's topic was Starting Your Puppy, which was perfect timing for us!

Even if you don't participate in agility OR have a puppy,  I think there's something you can appreciate and use from this collection of blog posts.

Read one or read them all! You'll probably pick up something that will work for you.

Many folks posted about playing with your puppy and having fun. They talked about learning tricks and just running around the backyard, much like we do!

Backyard fun!
The common thread was keeping it fun, positive and stress-free while building a relationship with your dog. No matter what your FitDog activities are, I think these are great tips to keep in mind.

One final tip I'd like to share -- especially if you are training a puppy -- is to keep training sessions SHORT! Puppies have short attention spans and you want to leave them wanting more! If you'd like to read our Dog Agility Blog Event post, you can find it here.

Now, get off the computer and go have fun and play with your pups!

The fun and games continue every Friday with FitDog Friday, the weekly Blog Hop brought to you by To Dog With LoveSlimDoggy and Peggy's Pet Place to promote a healthy active lifestyle for pets (and their people, too!). Join in every Friday by linking up your FitDog story or visiting the blogs in the Hop.

  1. Huxley was definitely the puppy that reminded us to keep training sessions short! We often left puppy kindergarten, puppy agility and beginning obedience classes early because I could tell he was done and I wanted his attitude to stay positive. It's fun to get to know your puppy through training and play!

  5. Rocco is always such a happy looking guy! We keep our puppy busy learning and doing fun stuff all the time. She seems to be real well balanced too. It is important to do a lot with us dogs when we are young and most impressionable.

    1. It's amazing what a difference it makes to do good foundation training, whether it's for competition or for being a good doggie citizen!

  9. I really wish I could find an agility class close enough to join. I found one that starts soon but is 45 minutes away IF the traffic on the bridge is actually moving. It's just too dicey to try to get there. I loved your puppy pictures.

  10. We have been having so much fun playing with our puppy, and seeing him get our older dogs moving too. If we start Luke with agility, it sounds like that blog hop could have a lot of good information for us!

  12. That is really a great thing. I would like to tell that I too have recently attended a workshop of training the puppies at puppy house break training who helped us a lot in training the puppies.

  13. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this. I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me. Thanks!
