Five Summer Dangers for Pets
This July 4th weekend, don't let your dog become of the lost-dog statistics. Loud noises like fireworks can cause dogs to bolt, so be sure to keep them in a safe and secure place. Here are five things to keep in mind so you can enjoy a healthy, active summer with your pets.
HOT tips for summer pet safety
In addition to the above, here are our HOT tips to keep in mind this summer.
Hydration is key, especially in the hot summer months. Make sure your pet has access to fresh water both at home and on the road.
Off the hot pavement... keep your pups paws off the hot pavement as well as out of hot cars. That may mean walking early in the morning or later in the evening once the temperature cools a bit.
Turn up the volume inside, so that pets won't be bothered by fireworks outside. Play some music or watch some TV to help drown out the scary noises outside.

Mr. N has a cooling coat and he gets wetted down often which he isn't that fond of.
ReplyDeleteWe aren't out much during the day in the heat. Early morning and evenings are our time in the summer.
ReplyDeleteWhen it is really really hot we hole up in the ac. When not as bad we go swimming in our pond or creek. And we make sure to have plenty of cool fresh water where they can get to it. And my aussie likes to eat ice cubes.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips - luckily we do our workouts in the early am before it gets too hot.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is hot. We try and keep the dogs indoors in the day heat.

I put some Pawz booties on her paws to keep them safe on hot pavement walks or gravel surfaces
ReplyDeleteWe take shorter walks and make sure that they have plenty of water. Never leave them in the hot car.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July, hope it's fun and safe. Great tips for beating that summer heat.
ReplyDeleteIt is stupid hot here during the day so we walk in the evenings after the all f the neighbors are home from work. We don't want too much traffic when we walk. ♥
ReplyDeleteWe do lots of our walks in the evenings too. Good point about the traffic!
DeleteI bring my dogs in from the heat and work really hard to keep them cool. We live in a very hot and humid area so that is really important. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe have tons of great walking trails around us, but I've been keeping our dogs at home, because I worry about the temperature of the pavement.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! It's such a great reminder for all of us. It's going to be hot this weekend.
Hopefully you'll be able to to run/walk with your pups soon... when the temps cool down a bit!
DeleteI keep them in the house other than our walks make sure they have plenty of water and use flea meds and heartworm meds to keep them healthy!
ReplyDeleteMake sure they can stay cool and have plenty of water to drink and play in
ReplyDeleteLayla is black so I worry about her so this is what I do, whenever out have water with me for her plus a cloth so that I can wipe her down, Carry her across the streets because of her paws, In the park I make sure she is in the shade as much as possible but if really hot we are inside
ReplyDeleteIt does seem to make it even worse/hotter for dark colored pets. Sometimes you just have to stay inside, it's so hot!
DeleteI keep my doggies in where there is fans & coolers. I also make sure they have plenty of cool water.
ReplyDeleteLiving in the desert, my cats are kept strictly indoors with air conditioning & have water fountains to stay hydrated.
ReplyDeleteWe don't go out much during the summer heat, living in the desert, it's just too hot for them. It doesn't cool off much in the evenings, but we can go out and play a bit late evening, and very early in the morning. My dogs live inside in the a/c and I'm home all the time with them. (Tammy Horn)
ReplyDeleteKeep them at home instead of in the car.
ReplyDeleteGreat infographic. I make sure to leave them home if it's going to be hot out or I use my truck with my dog boxes that will keep them cool if they need to go with.
ReplyDeleteWe do most of our outside activities early and late during the day to avoid the hottest time of day. I have a kiddie pool I fill with water so they can cool off when they want, too!
ReplyDeleteLove our kiddie pool!
DeleteI keep the fans on the back porch turned on so they always have shade and a breeze when outside and we spend the hottest part of the day inside under the A/C
ReplyDeleteFans on the back porch sounds nice about now!
DeleteThank you for all the wonderful tips. Living in Florida, we are very cognizant of the heat and to remain hydrated. We don't go anywhere without water and in addition to our hiking boots (for the dogs), we also have simpler booties as well. The majority of my dogs are dark, so we must pay extra attention that they don't overheat. I think being within a few miles of the launch pads at NASA have helped with the sensitivity to loud noises, as well as having high ceilings and squeaky children, LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's interesting. I bet the NASA sounds would help desensitize them!
DeleteI walk the dogs early in the morning and late at night to avoid the heat. I always make sure the dogs have plenty of water and give them canned food and cool treats on hot days. We also have shade in the backyard and a pool for them but on hot days I don't keep them out long. They stay nice and cool in the house with the A/C on :)
ReplyDeleteRocco likes to lay in front of the air conditioning vent! Nice and cool!
Deleteall my dogs are in the house but I frequently change their water bowls and even put ice cubes in them too make the water cool
ReplyDeleteRocco LOVES ice cubes!
DeleteWe keep our dogs safe from the 4th of July Fireworks...we keep them in the house with the TV on. Taking them out just before all the fireworks start to potty. We are sitting and holding them from shaking. Tell them it will be ok. I feel sorry for all the dogs that are scared of fireworks. We found a dogs running in our front yard that got out because of the fireworks and was running around scared.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Hope that dog found his way home. Firework sound are so awful for so many dogs.
DeleteIf it is too hot outside, then only short walks and lots of water breaks and rest times inside with air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteWe walk our pups early in the mornings during the hot summer months provide splashing fun in our puppy pool in our yard. Both pups also love playing with the water which comes out of the sprinkler attachment for our hose ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the ASPCA giveaway you're doing ~ we are so participating!
I keep them in doors, especially during the heat of the day, and I always make sure their water bowls are full so they stay hydrated.
ReplyDeletei take them out in the early am and evening when it is cool. make sure they get flea/tick spray, etc. all natural. give them their heartworm meds every month, check for fleas and ticks on a daily basis. when traveling, always have cold water, and have a fan in my car if necessary, battery operated and a cool pad for them to sit on.
ReplyDeleteWe try to only take walks in the early morning or late afternoon and to walk in shaded areas. I bring water with me and keep an eye out for signs of heat stroke.
ReplyDeleteI do not let my dog out anytime of the year before I scan the yard. We have wild critters at times that lurk. I also do not take him for walks if the pavement is too hot and always bring water and protection with me from other animals.
ReplyDeleteNEVER leave her in the car and always make sure she has LOTS of water at all times.
ReplyDeleteMy Buddy his Lil Legs have to work so much harder to have Fun! But he Loves his Walks & Outside Playing! He's For Real...DOG TIRED....❤️
ReplyDeleteWe make sure there is lots of water and that she doesn't get overheated outside.
ReplyDeletei always carry a portable water dish and h2o for my pooch, i always worry he will get overheated when we got out walking
ReplyDeleteMy dogs love to lay out in the sun, but when it is hot like this I keep them inside as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI keep them supervised & hydrated. More frequent but shorter ventures outside.
ReplyDeleteWe make sure that they are inside our air conditioned home day and night. We give them plenty of water and only go for walks when it is cooler in the evenings.

Living in the country, we have to keep a close eye on our dogs to make sure they don't stay outside too long. We keep assorted water pans throughout the property so they never run out of water no matter where they are. An emergency kit would be wonderful to have on hand.
ReplyDeletecats stay in airconditioned rooms
ReplyDeleteWe have 3 Dogs, we keep our Dogs in the backyard when they go outside , it is safer that way... They live in the house. We also keep them safe when we go kyaking by putting life jackets on them. And I keep my dogs toe nails cut once a month to keep them safe so they don't get their nails caught on things.
