Happy 3rd Birthday Rocco!

Is Rocco jumping for joy because he turned three this week? Or could he be barking up the wrong tree! Read on to find out!

Rocco gets some serious air!
Rocco's third birthday was Wednesday (how fast they grow up!).  So we headed outside to get some fun birthday action shots. Only Rocco had another idea.

There's something fascinating up there. Can you guess what it is?

Uh oh!

Don't worry, Patches climbs up and down that tree all the time.

Meantime, Rocco gets a good rear end workout.

That's some serious spring action in his little legs.

Seriously though, I don't like to see him jump straight up. It can't be good for his little body. Though everything I've heard and read talks more about the dangers of jumping down off of things (and the impact to their front end) especially for little dogs. So I typically  try to limit this type of jumping (but with camera in hand it was too good to pass up)!

Rocco heads back in for a birthday treat, not worried at all about his jumping!

Do you have a point of view on jumping straight up?

  2. Happy third birthday, Rocco! None of us have ever even tried to jump straight up. I think it may be more of a little dog thing? We aren't allowed to jump on and off of anything really. I guess we live in a no jump zone!

    1. Probably best that you're not allowed to jump on and off. Maybe it is a little dog thing. Of course I did teach him to jump up into my arms... so I suppose it's all my fault, anyway!

  9. This cracked me up. Does Rocco get along with your cat? Our dogs are awful to the cats. :(

    1. The cat, and other cats, live next door (on the other side of the fence). That's why Rocco is obsessed with the fence! Rocco chases them out of our backyard for sport. I suppose if they didn't run, he wouldn't chase them! We don't have our own cat!

  10. Happy Birthday Rocco. Glad you got some jumping in. Kilo the Pug loves jumping everywhere- he is short but mighty springy too- I should start to set up ramps I guess. He has developed much more strength in his rear over the last year. Have a great weekend! XS

    1. I think building up the rear end strength is a good thing! Rocco has mighty powerful thighs for a little, short guy!

  11. Happy birthday, Rocco! I love these pictures. Barley gets springy like that if I leave her with her leash in someone else's hand (like for a bathroom break or if our trainer offers to do some separation practice with us in class)--as soon as I come back into sight, she turns into a kangaroo. Rocco's little legs make this look even more impressive.

  15. Happy 3rd Birthday, Rocco! You got some serious air for sure!! Jumping straight up may not be good if it were to happen all the time, but I think it's ok every now & then, especially if his little body has already warmed up. Our boy Buzz is several times Rocco's size (around 74 lb) and LOVES to jump up straight on our fence when Mr. Squirrel teases him on a tree...it's hilarious to watch, but unfortunately he doesn't get air like Rocco!! I'll have to try getting some good pics of him tomorrow morning ;-)
