Lure coursing events and trials were created to offer sighthound owners a way to test their hounds' coursing instincts and those characteristics for which they were originally bred, to be able to hunt by sight. The sighthound breeds are: Whippets, Basenjis, Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Afghan Hounds, Borzois, Ibizan Hounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Scottish Deerhounds, Salukis and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

Some other helpful links about lure coursing:
If you're in the Atlanta area, we thoroughly enjoyed our day at The Canine Ranch. The schedule for upcoming fun days and lure "happy hours" can be found here.

Jasmine LOVES lure-coursing!! When we first tried it, she wasn't sure what to think. She ran off after it... then a little ways out, stopped to see if I was coming! I encouraged her to "go get it"... and she's been hooked ever since!! :D
ReplyDeleteOMD! Cosmo likes lure coursing even more than TREATS! His instint kicked in immediately and he never looked back. I think we need a lure course at the Havanese Nationals. I think people will be AMAZED at what their Havs will do! hee hee!
ReplyDeleteI did the lure course last year and loved it. I almost caught that furry pelt..heehee
