Paw Shui Tips From Eric Stromer and a $25 Petco Gift Card Giveaway!

Creating a safe and comfortable home that's also stylish and pet-friendly is the wining combination for us.  We recently had the chance to chat with do-it-yourself expert Eric Stromer about how to create the perfect "Paw Shui" for your pet home!

Eric teamed with Petco to bring us the tips in this video that will help make your home a pet haven. So check it out and then read all the way down for a great giveaway from Petco!

What does Paw Shui mean to you?  For us it means that we have great flow and energy in our home.  To Rocco, that means the path from dining room to kitchen to living room forms a perfect racetrack around the center of the house... perfect for zooming!

What else makes our list for pet-friendly home decor?
  • A pet bed in every corner (well, almost)
  • A crate that does double duty as a side table like this one.
  • A storage center for leashes, waste bags, treats, grooming items, etc.
  • And, of course, fabrics and finishes that are easy to clean and don't attract pet hair
Win a $25 gift card from Petco!

To give you a head start on creating your own Paw Shui, we're hosting a $25 gift card giveaway from Petco. Simply enter via Rafflecopter below for a chance to win. U.S. winners only.

Good luck!

    1. Good thinking! We think our next bed may also come with a storage option to help organize all Rocco's toys.

  2. Paw Shui?! BOL What a great concept. I agree with Rocco that there needs to be a racing path through the house for zoomies. If there is no clear race path, then why bother living in that space. Seriously. BOL

  3. Storage containers are always a great idea for my dogs' toys and treats, having enough beds is a good one too. Most importantly, Love and plenty of attention tops my list. I like for my guys to have plenty to do so they don't get bored. I recently bought a 6ft tall cat tree and my 4 cats are all real pleased with it. So, storage containers, comfy beds, love , attention and 6 ft. tall cat tree! I think my home is VERY pet-friendly. After all, it revolves around them!

  5. We've got three of the four pretty much covered. Since we don't use crates, we don't have the out, they are in the basement. A bed in every corner is wonderful I must say...I use them all!

  6. Elevated dinner bowls for the big dogs, small bowls for the little dogs and cats get their own special place to eat. All bowls are stainless steel so they can go through the dishwasher to keep them clean. Fresh, clean water is always available both inside and outside for all oets. Very important to keep pets hydrated all year long.

  7. Interesting concept. I have one crate and it doubles as an end-table of sorts. It is in the kitchen right by the back door so I keep some of the dogs' outside toys on it, their leashes, dog brushes, nail clippers, and other odds-and-ends. I think another crate in the entry hallway might be a good idea. The dogs currently have a bed in there. The top of the crate can serve as a place to put our shoes.

  8. Make sure all your cleaning supplies and other dangerous chemicals are way up especially if you have a cat that can open drawers and cabinet door.

  9. I definitely make sure to keep the ground picked up. I don't want my dogs to eat anything they shouldn't: staples, paperclips, pens, etc.

  10. Make sure my cat and dog don't get poisoned by ant and roach sprays. We try to bomb the house once every six months so it is important that the water and food is not contaminated. Also want my pets to be flea free.

  11. I always try to look at the house from the dog's point of view- from their level... Is there anything that could be chewed? Tangled in? Dangerous in any way?

  12. I like the idea of crate training and having a good looking pet bed. Leash training is just as important for outside the home.

  15. To make a home pet friendly: put everything small enough to be swallowed away in a safe place!

  16. Everything on the list of course. But maybe could add things like a ramp or stairs to come in the house or go on the bed if needed. Or maybe safety proofing the house like Garth mentions!
