How BRIGHT MIND helps keep senior dogs sharp and alert

Did you know there are approximately 87 million dogs in the U.S.* and an estimated 44 percent of them are seven years and older?**

That's a whole lot of senior dogs, yet most owners of dogs 7+ are unlikely to think about their dog's experiencing age-related cognitive decline.***

Around age 7, a dog's glucose metabolism in the brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision-making.

A dog's brain relies on energy from glucose to thrive, and around age 7, a dog's brain cells start to lose their ability to effectively use glucose as an energy source which ultimately affects functioning.

After years of research, Purina experts discovered an additional energy source  --  the fatty acids derived from botanical oils called Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) -- that can be used in addition to glucose. As part of an older dog's total nutrition, these MCTs have shown to help promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs age 7+.

So what does this mean for senior dog owners? The MCTs have been shown to promote memory, attention and trainability in dogs age 7+. Differences you may see in your dog are in his interaction with you, interest in playing and ability to adapt and cope with change.

Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND, with MCTs from enhanced botanical oils comes in three formulas:
  • Adult 7+ Chicken and Rice
  • Adult 7+ Small Breed
  • Adult 7+ Large Breed
Both formulas include:
  • High quality protein, including chicken as the first ingredient
  • Enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs 7+ within 30 days
  • EPA, an omega-3 fatty acid, and glucosamine to help support joint health and mobility
  • Vitamin A and linoleum acid, an omega-6 fatty acid, for healthy skin and coat
  • Natural prebiotic fiber, sourced from what bran to help promote digestive health
Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ is available exclusively at pet specialty retailers (Small Breed formula at PetSmart only).

    Lily & Edward

  3. He will benefit from this food because it contains vitamins and omega 3 oils

  4. I think my 16 year old, Sushi, will benefit from this food because of it's enhanced botanical oils. She suffers from dementia and could use help with her mind.

  5. My rescue pup ole' girl is now 12 years old and this Purina Pro Plan Bright Minds food sounds like a winner to feed my girl to help with her aging body and mind. I really would like to try anything that claims to benefit her health as a senior pup!

  6. It made me so sad to realize that Bentley was considered a senior at only seven years old. Although I prefer "middle-aged" I still feed him a diet for older dogs. This looks like a great event and a super food!

  7. I think the botanical oils that are in it will be really good for him. I didn't know about these or that they were good for mental sharpness. Thank you.

  8. I have 4 senior dogs - all over the age of 10. MCTs have shown to help promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs age 7+ which is a key ingredient in Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind food. I look forward to trying this and seeing if I notice a difference after 30 days.

  9. What a fun event! We used to eat ProPlan, but we have switched. It is important to keep the senior mind working, though.

  10. My senior dog Josie doesn't seem to be as alert, active and sharp these days. I would love to try the Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind food.

  11. My senior dog, Mike, was just rescued/adopted by us in January and he's still making up for years of poor nutrition.

  12. I would give this to my sister for her senior dogs.

  13. my oldest is almost 14 and she is having some health issues, recovering for the 2nd time from vestibular and has 2 bulging discs which she did with the first time she got it. the oemga 3 fatty acids are very good for her joints and she needs some help with mental alertness, she lost her hearing abt 3 mos ago as well. i am doing pt with her now at home, i think the botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness would help with her since she likes to sleep all day and i have to force her to get up and move sometimes. in the evening when it is cooler, she will still play with her ball, but she needs to strengthen her hind legs

  14. My dogs are both young, but I would love to win to donate this.

  15. My dog is 11 years old now but still plays with toys and other dogs. We have small Puppy Parties with his friends and I want to keep him this way for years to come. TFS.

  16. I love that it helps with joint health. My senior dog is showing signs of joint discomfort.

  17. I believe the literature and research that has been published for this age range. I would love to try it and compare even though we have always given our dog high quality food for his health. rene chartier (medicus0911)
