Leap into Leap Day With These Fun Fitness Tips for You and Your Dog

leap day dog jumping agility
Rocco leaps into leap day!
This Monday is Leap Day, meaning we get one extra day this month (and this year) to make a difference!

We think it's a great day to add some variety to your fitness activities and to make a difference in the health and well-being of both you and your dogs!

Here are five things we plan to do on Leap Day this year
  1. Go for a walk -- It's one of the easiest things you can do for both you and your pup and it's not only good for you physically but it helps to clear your mind too.
  2. Play a game -- Rocco loves hide 'n seek games. I'll start thinking about a new hiding place now! You might also sign up for a new class... like agility!
  3. Train a new trick -- We've been working on rolling over on his right side (Rocco already rolls to the left) and we're getting back to his shopping cart trick, too.
  4. Do some new conditioning exercises -- To strengthen Rocco's front legs and shoulders (also good for shopping cart pushing!) he is doing front leg stands on a foam roller. As a bonus, I can use the foam roller for stretching and core exercises, too.
  5. Visit your vet -- Rocco's annual visit is this Monday, on Leap Day! It's also a good time of year to make sure you are stocked up on flea and tick prevention.

How are you going to use your Leap Day to make a difference?

  1. We got annual physicals next week too. I've started working on training also since it's rained so much. Teaching them both sign language before Harley starts his therapy work at the Children's hospital. That along with games, walking and bike rides in between the down pours keeps us pretty busy. Have a great weekend

  3. Yay for Leap Day this year - on a side note, it's hard to believe that February is almost over already!!
The pups just went for their annual wellness exams - you picked a great day for Rocco's exam :-) I still have a giveaway until Monday on the blog for natural skincare products which includes a natural insect repellent (works for fleas & ticks on both dogs & cats) - Spring sure is right around the corner!

  4. No big plans other than calling our friend who was born on leap day. Poor girl only gets a real birthday every four years! I know you'll be leaping over agility equipment!

  9. So I've been quietly stalking your blog; especially the posts about agility. And yesterday, I sent an email off to a Craigslister who makes agility equipment and I'm going to invest in a small set for our dogs.

Thank you for the inspiration and making this look like so much fun!

  10. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
