Amber Alerts for Pets Helps Reunite Storm Victims With Lost Pets

With the recent devastation from tornadoes across the United States, thoughts turn to helping the victims restore order to their lives as quicky as possible. And in cases where lost pets are involved there are services available to help reunite owners with their lost pets.

Bill Rozich, founder of amberalertforpets.com, has informed us that they are doing free searches for lost pets for every part of the country that has suffered the traumatic effects of our summer of storms.  To register, this is what storm victims need to do:
  • Visit amberalertforpets.com, click on join, and when the registration form appears in the box that has the word "code" in it, type "storm 2011" (update: type storm2011 without quotes or a space) to register every pet in the household for free.
  • Once the registration is complete, click on lost pet and complete the brief report and a lost pet alert will be sent out.
  • Attach a photo if you have one; a cell phone photo will do just fine.  If you don’t have a photo describe your pet to the best of your ability and they will issue the alert.
Seven years ago, Bill started Amber Alert for Pets when he lost his Black Lab Bobby and received little assistance from the organizations in his community.  He says he called every non-profit in his community and not one of the answered the phone. While Amber Alert for Pets is not a non-profit, no one in the organization is paid a salary and Bill says they always answer their phone.

“Let me assure you of one thing and that is how important it is to talk to someone who knows what you are going through and is willing to listen and offer you suggestions on what you can do to find your lost friend,” said Bill.  “It is hard to think clearly when you are under the strain of the loss of a family member.  We encourage you to call back whenever you feel the need to 24/7.” You can find contact information for Bill here.

The service is also free for rescue groups, shelters and their foster families. To register, type the word "rescue" in the box where the word "code" appears.

Amber Alerts for Pets has recently started a second service supported by its web site titled petfriendlyrealtygroup.com.  Real estate agents who sell a home to pet owners can register their pets in the Amber Alert for Pets program as a house warming gift.

  2. That is a great service. One of our big fears, if we were to move back to Iowa, is a tornado hitting while Gus is home alone.
