USDAA Agility Weekend

Rocco attacks the weaves last weekend!
Last weekend we had a blast at our first USDAA agility trial of the season. Rocco earned his PII titles in Jumpers and Snooker and we also earned Qs (qualifying runs in Gamblers and Standard).

Rocco gets his contact, though it may look close, meaning he got at least a paw in the yellow zone
So here's a little more about what all that means!

PII is the Advanced level but the P stands for Performance, which means Rocco jumps a height lower than he measures for in USDAA. The heights in USDAA are generally higher than in AKC agility so I choose to jump him at 8 inches in USDAA (12 inches is the lowest they offer in the regular height category). In AKC Rocco jumps at the regular height because in that organization he measures officially as an 8-inch dog.

So after PII we move up to PIII which is the equivalent of the masters level in USDAA.

Good jump Rocco!

Then he looks for the next direction
Gamblers and Snooker runs are courses that consist of different challenges. In Gamblers, there's a challenge where you send your dog out to obstacles so they work at a distance while in Snooker you plan your own strategy for the course to get the most points in a certain amount of time, with no mistakes!

Jumpers is all jumps and tunnels while the Standard course has all the obstacles, much like you might see on tv!

On the table, your dog has to stay in the down position for a count of 5
We're back at it this weekend at an AKC agility trial.

Mumpford
We also want to thank everyone for participating in our FitDog Friday anniversary celebration and giveaway. Lisa Davis and her dog Mumford are the lucky winners of our awesome prize pack! Mumford is an adorable Dalmatian Basset Hound mix (at least that's what they think) who Lisa adopted from the Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado. Lucky dog!

Thanks again to prize sponsors For Love of a Dog, PetSafe, SmartCookee Treats, Jones Natural Chews, SlimDoggy, and Petnet for providing the awesome prizes for our FitDog Friday 2nd Anniversary giveaway!

  5. Good job. I hope you do well with your trial this weekend. We will be training. I think it seems like we are always training and never actually doing a test, but our testing season does not start until May. :)

    1. He's 10 inches. I think he looks bigger because he's long and fluffy!

  8. Congratulations! I love watching dogs jump at 8-inches--I think Barley would step over that without even noticing it was there, but they always look like they are giving it their all. It looks like Barley and Rocco have the same approach to the contact on the A-frame! She's excellent at stopping and waiting for me at the end of the dog walk, but we're working on not flying off the A-frame now :)

    1. hehe! I trained two on, two off on the dog walk and a down at the bottom of the A-frame. He typically doesn't get too close to flying off but I am way too familiar with losing Qs from missed contacts. Dear Cosmo LOVED to fly off!

  9. OK... Mumpford is adorable. But what I really want to say is look at you flying off the A-frame. Great action photo. (and I'm glad you made contact so you got all the points.)

  13. Fifteen districts that remain on very low human development are Balochistan, Tor Ghar and Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Tharparkar in Sindh. Worse, the evidence shows that the IMF programmes have a negative effect on human development". Ironically, former finance minister Miftah Ismail, who had followed typical IMF recipes, has ridiculed his successor for having taken the same "structural adjustment" route after getting similar financial handouts from the Saudis and the Chinese.

  14. Hey there! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog. Is it difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast.

I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any points or suggestions?
