Newest CAT dog! Cosmo Havanese wins his Lure Coursing Ability title!

Air Cosmo                                               Uma Rapiti Photography
Cosmo Havanese chases the lure during one of his three qualifying at the GANG Lure Coursing event in Calhoun, Ga., this past weekend!

With three Qs, Cosmo earned his CAT title (Coursing Ability Test), giving him a few more initials after his name -- Noblegold Cosmopolitan Jr. Mint AX, MXJ, CA... but you can still call him Cosmo!

In order to Q, small dogs (under 12 inches at the withers) need to run a 300-yard course in under a minute and a half. Large dogs get two minutes to run 600 yards. Cosmo completed his runs in about 30 seconds each! We had a blast and Cosmo couldn't contain his excitement!

After winning his title, Cosmo takes a spa soak
You can read more about Lure Coursing for all breeds here. The AKC introduced the CAT tests last year, but this was our first trial. All the dogs looked like they were having a blast. Thanks to the folks at the Greyhound Association of North Georgia for putting on a fabulous event!

Cosmo would rather be running!

Review: Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer With ChillSpot

Cosmo is a hot dog. I'd been on the hunt for a bed to keep him cool on our deck during hot summer days for a long time. So when I heard about ChillSpot, a new cooling dog bed, I couldn't wait to try it out.

It turns out the inventors of ChillSpot live not too far from us in Atlanta. Mark and Ken were nice enough to give us a demo in person, but if you're looking for a cool bed, they've also made it super easy to order one online. You can also check out their video at the bottom of this post.

Cosmo chills on our deck during a hot Atlanta afternoon
ChillSpot uses insulation and simple thermodynamics to replicate the feeling of a cool tile floor, no matter how hot the temperature.
Two ChillPods slide into each side of the ChillSpot
It comes with the grey insulated base, two ChillSpot tiles and four reusable ChillPods. I store the ChillPods in my freezer, and when Cosmo's ready for  chillin', I simply slide them into the slots of each tile.

Cosmo chills in his favorite spot where he can keep an eye on the squirrels
ChillSpot is 24" x 36" inches, big enough for a large dog or for several small dogs to share. At a total of 45 pounds, the weight concerned me at first. But each component (base, tiles and pods) weighs no more than 10 pounds, so I've been able to easily transport the ChillSpot throughout the house or in the back of my car.

Cosmo chills with Havanese pals
I took the Chillspot with us when we attended a recent Havanese playday.  It was a sweltering hot day, and the pad provided some nice relief on a screened-in porch for Cosmo and his pals!

Cosmo relaxes in cool comfort despite 90 degree heat at this weekend's lure course event
Cosmo also competes in performance dog events where keeping a cool head and body are super important! During the Lure Coursing event we attended this weekend, the ChillSpot provided the perfect place to cool off from 90 degree temperatures.

Want to know more about how the ChillSpot works? Check out this video from Mark and Ken.

We give the ChillSpot a four paws up for its ingenious design and ability to keep my hot dog cool, even in the hottest conditions. The pods keep the ChillSpot cool for the entire day, then you can pop them in the freezer to cool overnight or purchase a spare set so you always have cool pods on hand.

Cosmo and I hope you have a chillin' summer!

Disclosure: We were provided with a ChillSpot for review purposes but were not financially compensated for this post. The opinions expressed are entirely our own based on our own experience.

Today we arrived at "Behind the Paw," the pet blogger summit organized by P & G Pet Care and its Iams and Eukanuba brands. We've got an action packed couple of day ahead of us, and I'm sure there will be lots of great information to share.

Here's a look at what we'll be doing and who is attending... an awesome group of bloggers and all the good folks from Iams and Eukanuba too!

And, we can't wait to see how Griffin is adjusting to his new role as V.P. of Canine Communications.

Griffin as a V.P. in training
We had the pleasure of meeting Griffin last December at the AKC Eukanuba National Championship dog show.

Happytails giveaway event: Pamper your dog in spa style!

happytailsspa180

Welcome to the Happy Tails Spa Giveaway Event hosted by Two Little Cavaliers, and sponsored by Happy Tails Spa! Read all the way down to see how to enter to win LOTS of great eco-friendly dog spa products from Happytails. But first, this message from Cosmo Havanese.

"Hmm, this does not smell like dog treats..."
Cosmo and I had the opportunity to take a few Happytails products on a test run. Because Cosmo is a bit of an itchy dog, we tried the Comfy Dog oatmeal conditioning shampoo for itchy skin and the Itchin' for Relief anti-itch spray.

"Still waiting for my treats..."
Cosmo gets lathered up with Comfy Dog shampoo, with ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, peppermint, comfrey and calendula to sooth itchy skin. The shampoo smells like peppermint, but Cosmo simply smelled fresh and clean after his bath, not like a mint!

For extra relief, the Itchin' for Relief spray features a unique "nozzler" that delivers an all-natural formula through the coat directly onto the skin. For a fluffy dog like Cosmo, this is extra important! Itchin' for Relief contains neem, oat extract and aloe to condition the skin while litchi, grapefruit seed extract and calendula smell fresh and clean. I even tried some on myself!

After using these products, Cosmo feels super soft and fluffy and he does seem to be less itchy. He also smells fresh and clean... and so do I!

Check out the full line of products from Happytails and then head down to the linky list below to see all the great products offered in this giveaway event.
